This Month So Far: October 2016

Photos taken during October.

Finding the time, energy and will to blog has not been easy lately. So I’ve been blogging much less. It’s now October.

Life has changed a lot since when I first started blogging ten years ago.  Money and time available have decreased. Family responsibilities have increased. Free Yoga Boston and other social media platforms that I’m on now didn’t exist ten years ago.

Just like the seasons change, our lives change and we must adjust. Focusing on my well-being has made blogging fall away to a certain extent. But I miss it too.

Documenting my life and experiences is something that I had always loved about blogging. When others appreciated what I shared, it made it even sweeter.

To continue, blogging has to happen differently. For now, I hope you enjoy these images. These are bits and pieces of my October so far.

Have a great weekend!

Wondering what it’s like taking a free yoga class outdoors? There are some videos by Michelle Garcia that will give you an idea. Take a look at Free yoga classes at the Boston Common 2.

In another video, Garcia interviews yoga instructor Genevieve Oba about the classes. Oba also teaches at Yoga Mandala in Winchester and at Gold’s Gym in Arlington.

She says that everyone should try yoga. Yoga is for everyone! Even if you don’t think you’re flexible!

Summer 2016: Free Yoga Classes in Boston

A sepia image showing one of many free yoga classes in Boston.

Looking for free yoga classes in Boston? You’ve come to the right place.

Memorial Day weekend may be the the unofficial start of summer. The summer solstice is the official start of summer. But for me, once the 4th of July rolls around, then it’s truly summer. So here we are! In the heart of summer. Bring on the picnics, barbecues, trips to the beach and of course, lots of outdoor free yoga classes in Boston! This year class locations expand beyond the Boston area to the South Coast and includes Fairhaven.

While the listing of free yoga classes is year-round now, one for each season, this is the 5th Annual listing of free yoga classes for the summer. Remember there are Meetups in the area to try out. Hands To Heart Center Yoga – Yoga for the People provides free yoga classes for people living with poverty and trauma in Boston. Check out their website and Twitter for class schedules.

There are also free yoga classes being offered by a new group called Breathe Boston. They offer individual or group yoga and meditation classes.  You can sign up for classes at their location or have them come to you for a private class in your own home.

+ + +

Here are some general suggestions for those of you who may be new to taking free yoga classes in Boston that are outdoors. All classes listed here are free or donation based.

Sometimes mats and props might be available to you, but don’t count on it. If they are available, there may not be enough for everyone. So bringing your own mat, water, towel, etc., is the general rule.

blue sky behind clouds

Double check if the weather is bad. Usually the Facebook page and/or website will give an update if the class will be cancelled. Sometimes classes are brought indoors instead.

Most outdoor summer classes start in June or July and are over by the end of September.

Based on my sources, most classes take place on the days listed, but there can be gaps in the schedule for certain weeks, so you may want to double check first before you go. Also, most classes last for an hour, but when I am not sure, I do not put an end time.

The Free Yoga Boston Community on Facebook is updated most everyday and more than 1000 have “Liked” the page.  Thank you! Check each day for all sorts of yoga news in addition to free yoga classes in Boston.

Now That It’s Spring

labyrinths

Warmer weather is here and after a full week of clouds, cold and rain, I am ready to enjoy the sunny warm outdoors. Yay spring!

Did you know that this past Saturday, May 7th was World Labyrinth Day? People all over the globe “Walked as One at 1” in order to generate a wave of peaceful energy.

I didn’t get to do any labyrinth walking, but it got me thinking that spring is the perfect time to renew my Life List efforts, see #82, and walk some new labyrinths.

In case you’re interested as well, The Labyrinth Society‘s labyrinth locator helps you find a labyrinth in your area. It’s fun, relaxing and a walking meditation.

spring brings farmers market produce
Also, I am so excited that with the arrival of spring, the open markets are all finally coming back! SoWa Open Market opened May 1st.

SoWa Open Market in spring

Take a look on the Massachusetts Farmers Market website for a listing of markets and when they are open for the season.

Copley Square Farmers Market opens tomorrow and Dewey Square Farmers Market opens next week on Thursday, May 19th. Dewey Square is easiest for me to get to, since it’s right outside South Station. I cannot wait for such easy access to just picked fruits and vegetables again!
