In Light of Venus in Retrograde ~ @CoherenceMovie

Sci-fi movies are a guilty pleasure. I love a good dinner party. And with the recent blue moon, Venus in retrograde, and Jupiter getting ready to move into my sign next week, I’m feeling like COHERENCE could be an interesting movie.

So after seeing the library promote it as a new movie title, I just put the DVD on hold.

On the night of an astronomical anomaly, eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of reality bending events. Part cerebral sci-fi and part relationship drama, COHERENCE is a tightly focused, intimately shot film that quickly ratchets up with tension and mystery.

Will I enjoy it or will it be another two hours of my life that I can’t get back? I’ll report back!

*Updated 8/13/2015* Happy to report that I loved this movie! I definitely recommend it. It’s not what you think it is and I’m not even sure it’s possible to really figure it out, but it’s fun trying and I survived another retrograde!

Recently Watched: Small, Beautifully Moving Parts

Small Beautifully Moving PartsThis past weekend, I was looking for a quick film on Netflix. Small, Beautifully Moving Parts was suggested as one that I might like. Since it was only available until November 1st, I decided to watch it. Good choice Netflix!

It was quite a sweet film and I recommend it if you’re looking for something a little quirky and sentimental. Below is a description from the movie trailer.

Sarah Sparks is pregnant and feeling wholly ambivalent, despite her boyfriend’s pure enthusiasm. A committed tech-geek, she fears she is more interested in ultrasound technology than in what’s being ultra-sounded. When her sister lures her to L.A. for what ends up being a terrorizing baby shower, Sarah keeps her rental van and hits the road in search of the source of her anxiety: her estranged mother, now living off the grid. SMALL, BEAUTIFULLY MOVING PARTS takes a comic and poignant look at one woman’s coming-of-parenthood in the age of technology.

You have a couple of days to watch it if you like. I love labyrinths and was really happy to see one in the movie. Although it wasn’t used as fully in the scene as it could have been. I would have liked to see the character walking it, while pondering her dilemma. Anyway, that’s just me.

Have you seen any good films on Netflix lately that you recommend?

A New Movie: In The Morning

I just saw the trailer for a new movie called In The Morning. This narrative feature film will have its World Premiere in New York at the 18th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival, which takes place from September 17-21, 2014.

The Writer/Director/Producer of the film is Nefertite Nguvu. From her blog, she gives us a peek into her world.

“As a filmmaker, and as a lover of films, I’ve always been attracted to intimate stories, films with an incredibly rich emotional life. I’m infinitely fascinated by the landscape of the human heart, and mind. I seek to create, and long to see films with complex, layered characters that take me on journeys. In The Morning is about something universal, something we’ve all wrestled with, sometimes won and sometimes lost, this terrible/beautiful animal: love. It explores the ever-changing nature of romantic love, but it’s ultimately about the profound power of self-love, self-actualization. My hope is that In The Morning will spark conversations about those beautiful moments in our lives and loves where we are required to be brave.”

The trailer looks like the type of film that I love and I’m intrigued by the filmmaker’s words as well. Hopefully In The Morning will be showing around the country soon!

*Updated 2/18/2020* I saw this film and loved it!
