Almost 18 Years Blogging

In human years, turning 18 is a big deal. In blog years, it’s a bit special too.

Tomorrow on April 29th, it will be 18 years to the day that I started blogging. I’ve written before about how so much has changed with blogging. Is it an ancient relic at this point? Video is the focus now.

Back in 2006, there wasn’t any social media. We hadn’t been through a pandemic. The world is so different. I’m so different.

Usually, I would choose a new word for the year on the 29th. I also always posted on the exact day. This year, I don’t feel called to pick a word for the year. And I’m posting a day before. Keeping with my weekly Sunday posts.

So no big fête. 18 years is marked and noted. Hooray!

Blogging in 2024

blogging in 2006

Blogging in 2024 versus blogging in 2006. It’s a whole different world.

This picture above is how my old blog, Anali’s First Amendment, looked back then. This was the first capture of it on the Wayback Machine on August 11, 2006. My first post was on April 29th of that year, so it took a little while for it to register on the internet.

I was still using an alias and my picture didn’t show my whole face. This blog has been through so many iterations that I forgot what it used to look like!

We often revisit the past when thinking about what we want in the future. Doing NaBloPoMo last year was part of that process for me. When I finished, I decided that I would write twice a week, Wednesday and Sunday.

So far I have, but I’m starting to wonder why. And I’m starting to wonder why I’m continuing to blog. Before when these thoughts crept up, something would happen that made me feel like I wanted to continue. But I’ve been feeling this way for a bit and nothing has changed this time.

April 29th will be 18 years blogging. When people turn 18, in most places, that means they have reached the age of majority and can be considered an adult. The adulthood of this blog might look different.

I’ll still always write, but writing doesn’t have to be here. Time will tell.

NaBloPoMo Complete!

NaBloPomo 2023

NaBloPoMo is ovah!!! I did it! Posted everyday this month. The past couple of days, I thought I wasn’t going to make it. But it worked out.

As I’d hoped, NaBloPoMo has helped me get back on track with my blogging. If I can blog everyday for a month, I can certainly blog twice a week.

And that’s my new goal for a regular blogging schedule. Twice a week, on Wednesday and Sunday. I may veer from that if something unexpected comes up, or if I am away on vacation. Traveling more is a big goal for next year! I should be able to schedule posts ahead of time if needed, so hopefully it won’t be an issue.

I started using the Notion app recently and it’s really helping with keeping track of my goals. It’s free and I’m enjoying it more than expected. I know I mention YouTube all the time, but lots of vloggers use Notion. Starting this past October, I tried it as well. Actually, I use the app on my phone and the desktop version too.

Many of the vloggers also do a 5:00am morning routine, but I’m not there yet. Who knows though? Maybe I’ll try it for a week and see what happens.

So far I’m just using Notion to do a monthly reset. It’s quite useful in letting me define short and long term goals by reflecting on the prior month. What worked. What didn’t. Then deciding how I can tweak things to work better for the upcoming month.

December starts tomorrow, so it’s time for another monthly reset.

Winding Down

So NaBloPoMo is winding down. This month flew by.

There were so many things that I wanted to write about that just didn’t happen. Like bringing back The Chowdah Project! The places I went out to eat weren’t chowder places though. It will still happen, just not by tomorrow.

I went to a funeral this afternoon, so today was rather melancholy. And my mind is just not focused. It’s so dry in here with the heat on, so I’ve been boiling water to help.

Just a second ago, I noticed that something smelled like it was burning. Yup, the pan of water was burning. Well, I was too preoccupied with lingering tech issues that I hadn’t noticed.

Anyway, for my own safety, I’ll just end this post here.

Blog Tech Issues

This is my actual face right now. Ignore the face on the sidebar. That was me before the tech issues today.

Mostly I love my blog, but I’m not a big tech person. So the tech stuff can be really frustrating. If it weren’t for NaBloPoMo, I definitely would not be blogging today. Because I am in no mood. But I’m just a few days from finishing, so I’m not stopping now.

I won’t be sharing this on the usual social media channels though. Let’s just all go about our business and pretend like this isn’t happening!
