Thanksgiving 2014

Thanksgiving DinnerThis picture is from Thanksgiving 2007 over at my aunt’s house. It’s hard to believe that so much time has gone by and all the changes that have taken place. I was just in my second year of blogging at that point. Such a newbie! The economy hadn’t officially crashed yet and I was still driving my Bug.

Since this picture, my aunt has moved to a different place. Today my family is going over to my uncle’s house and he has moved recently as well. I thought I was going to make gingerbread, but I’m starting to have second thoughts. Maybe I will bring something different. Still deciding….

Looking back at this year, it’s been transformative in many ways. Mostly all good too, which I am very thankful for.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving today surrounded by family and friends. Hopefully nobody has to leave early because they are working retail. Requiring anyone to work today just to increase Black Friday sales by a few hours is so against what today is supposed to be about. It’s truly heartless.

In case you are looking for some stores to support that refuse to stay open on Thanksgiving, here is a list.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Aereo’s Next Chapter: Chapter 11

Aereo Chapter 11 letter

Back in June, I wrote a post about Aereo. Aereo is the company that let consumers DVR and watch live TV online for a wonderful yet brief period of time. I was one of their subscribers and really miss it. I refuse to pay for cable, so I can’t DVR anymore.

From what I can tell, ABC has cut down on what is available to watch online for free, so if I miss something, I’ve really missed it. Since Shonda has me hooked, I’m glued to the TV on Thursday nights. Although, the shows are now on their winter break until January 29th, so my Thursdays just got freed up too.

Anyway, I just received an email from Aereo this morning saying that they have filed for Chapter 11 reorganization. It’s not surprising given their Supreme Court loss this summer and shutting down their service. Looks like they will have to come up with a new business model. It was great while it lasted.

Pain D’Avignon Holiday Pop-Up at Fairmont Copley Plaza

croissantsA few years ago, I remember hearing that one of the most amazing French bakeries was located on Cape Cod. I’ve never visited, but have always kept the name of the bakery in mind.

Then just recently I learned that this same bakery, Pain D’Avignon is having a weekly holiday pop-up at Fairmont Copley Plaza in the lobby tea court.

On Fridays, November 21, December 5, 12, & 19, 2 – 6pm and Tuesday, December 2, 5 – 7pm, they will have an array of fresh, baked goods available for purchase. I cannot wait to stop by and and finally taste how good this bread is!

If you’ve been hoping to try Pain D’Avignon’s bread too, but never made it to their Cape Cod location, now is the time to try it. The first pop-up is today!

You Have Been Flocked!

Flocked lawn signLast night, I was walking home from the train. Bundled up in my winter coat with my hood on and moving fast trying to get out of that cold and blustery wind.

Then out of the corner of my eye, I noticed all these pink flamingoes in someone’s yard. In spite of the cold, I went back. What was that??!!

There was also a sign on the lawn saying, “You Have Been Flocked!” I literally laughed out loud and took out my phone to take this picture. Hilarious!!

Happy Wednesday to you!
